French video game developer Ubisoft has been looking into the options for implementation of the Blockchain technology in the sphere of ownership of digital items, gaming news site IGN reported on Wednesday.

According to the team of Ubisoft’s Strategic Innovation Lab, the Blockchain technology can be used to secure that a user can have digital collectibles that cannot be replicated.

“Thanks to the blockchain, we can now have the equivalent of a digital Picasso, with the advantage that it’s a lot more difficult to steal something on the blockchain than to steak a Picasso." - Lidwine Sauer, Director of Insights and Trends at the lab explained to IGN.

A possible application of Blockchain is in the field of unique downloadable content (DLC), but Ubisoft believes there should be more interesting applications. It is looking into the spheres of AI and the mixture of physical and digital play.
