MindGeek, which controls most of the world’s online traffic for pornography, has introduced payments with Verge (XVG) cryptocurrency, the company said on Tuesday.

The service is available for several of its subsidiaries including Pornhub, and adult production content site, Brazzers.

“Our acceptance of Verge is an affirmation of our dedication to innovation and privacy, which recently has caused much concern and been at the forefront of all tech consumers` minds. We are extremely excited to offer our fans the ability to use crypto and think Verge, with its focus on anonymity, is the best option – whether for privacy, convenience or both,” the Vice President of Pornhub Corey Price said in a statement.

Payments with Verge are available also for the users of other MindGeek sites such as  YouPorn, Digital Playground, Men.com, Reality Kings and Nutaku.

Verge claims to be privacy-focused and uses anonymity tools TOR and I2P to enable anonymous mobile transactions. However, it is not clear how the technology behind TOR, the popular browser for hiding users IP, is able to guarantee full anonymity as the Verge blockchain is open and public.

Cryptocurrency and porn industry

“Pornhub is a global organization with nearly a hundred million daily users. This partnership represents an enormous market with a global reach that will compete with fiat currencies. It’s huge for Verge and we’re extremely excited to finally be able to announce it,”, Verge founder JustinSunerok said in a statement.

Pornhub launched its main paid service Pornhub Premium in 2015 but there is no available data about the number of subscribers. In addition, the scope of the partnership with Verge is hard to determine as porn market content is mainly free of charge.

Brazzers, whose core business is television production and content for cable channels,  was the target of a major privacy breach in 2016 as nearly 800 000 user accounts were exposed in a forum hack. Brazzers also does not disclose information about the number of paid subscribers.

Last month, Playboy TV, also operated by MindGeek, announced plans to allow cryptocurrency payments by Vice Industry Token (VIT) for its online users.

MindGeek announced Verge payment options with Pornhub and Brazzers advertisements.
